The
Internal Revenue Service has given official designation as a tax-exempt
organization to The Jeffersons Rotary Club Foundation. Billy Smith,
chairman of the board of directors, is very pleased with the designation.
He says it will help to obtain financial support when donors know that
gift values are deductible on income tax returns. Vicky Moody,
incoming Rotary Club President, said she is happy that donors will be
more encouraged to support this community resource. Gene Hafer,
who led preparations for the application to the IRS, said the fast approval
(thirty-eight days) indicated the organizers have done their work well. The I.R.S. determination letter is available by clicking here .
The
foundation will give financial support to projects of the Jeffersons
Rotary Club and other community activities, including scholarships for
area students. The Rotary Club will continue to conduct community
events, such as the annual Fiddlers Convention, the prostate cancer
screening clinics, and many other projects in the coming year.
All
donations to the foundation since its incorporation on July 25, 2007,
are confirmed as given to a tax-exempt charitable organization.
Since the foundation was a major donor to the Ashe County Armed Forces
Tribute last year, those who contributed for that event are affected
by the IRS ruling.
Rotary
Club members serving the club as directors, now and in the future, will
serve also as members of the foundation’s board of directors.
Currently, they are Billy Smith, Vicky Moody, R. D. Williams, Steve
Miller and Mick Phillips. Installation of officers for the 2008-2009
year will be held at Jefferson Landing June 5, with incoming officers
as follows: President, Vicky Moody; President-Elect, Joe Chamberlain;
Vice-President, Doug Spell; Secretary, Jeff Taylor; Treasurer, James
Young, with Billy Smith serving on the board as Immediate Past President.
