Nestled along the Blue Ridge in the tranquil green mountains of northwestern North Carolina, one small community gathers each year to pay tribute to the men and women from among them who have gone to serve their country in the armed forces. They honor both veterans and those currently serving.  They honor these men and women because they are keenly aware of the disconnection between the peaceful prosperity of life in the community and the primitive, violent conditions in which many have served and continue to serve. It is not a gathering to support or encourage war in the abstract or any particular war, but rather a heartfelt day of tribute to those who have put their personal comfort behind when duty called.

Welcome to the 2008 Armed Forces Tribute! Here's a list of what you will find here, and how it can be used! Please call 336.846.1251 if you have any questions, or come by the ACAFT office at 303 A East 2nd Street in West Jefferson, next door to the Chamber of Commerce. Original forms are available for picking up and dropping off Monday-Saturday, 9-5 at the office or at the Jefferson Courthouse in Betsy Reeves' office in the Veteran's Office.

" A crowd of over 300 veterans attended a lunch at the National Guard Armory in Jefferson and organizers say that around 1,500 people attended the event at Family Central despite hot temperatures last Saturday. Rhonda and I would like to share this recent photo of our son-in-law, Lt. John Edds. John was killed by an IED in East Baghdad Friday while on scout patrol. John was 24 years old and a 2005 graduate of the USMA (West Point).
